Who am I and what is WARUN?
I am a climber since 2012 and here I present you WARUN - an app-tool, which I felt was
missing
in the climbing world since forever.
It estimates climbing conditions based on actual weather conditions (and the temperature you prefer climbing in).
It is not fault-proof, but as of now it is the best I could create with the limited means I have.
WARUN is short for polish "warunki", which means "conditions". Could be translated as "condies" I guess, but WARUN
has just this nice ring to it.
Who creates WARUN?
I am the sole developer behind WARUN since the very first line of code. I got some support from many other people
(Logo and earlier UI was made by Kasia, app was tested by some 20 people from the community)
Who pays for WARUN?
Noone - as of now.
As long as it is me, who is responsible by its development, the app will not contain any ads, ever. Other forms of financing depend on how many people are interested.
However, because the server has limited amount of requests and the app is dependent on 3rd party APIs (weather and
webcams), I have to have a daily request limit as well as limited available regions.
If we can raise enough money through the donations, it may change.
How will the future of WARUN look like?
The app is definitely not in its final form - however, since I do all of the development in my free time and for
free, it might take some time.
The plan includes, but it is not limited to:
- reporting of dangers/bird nests and other stuff
- a map of the crags and their WARUN
- designing a better UI/UX by someone who knows what they are doing
- finding better data sources
- improving algorithms to predict the WARUN
- IOS and browser version
- opening the source of the code, so we can all cooperate on developing it
- ...
